It’s been a little while since our 4th, and last, child was born (just about 8 weeks), but I’m here to write a bit about it now. Our sweet daughter, Daphne, was born on May 21st and it was the most perfect home birth to end our childbirth experiences. This was our 4th home birth and for anyone on the fence about home births or wondering what they’re like- I for one can say that it’s amazing. I had a nice short labor at around 6 hours and I have to say, it was my easiest labor so far. She came out transverse (her head was sideways) which made the pushing hurt more than it should have, but I was truly amazed at how peaceful and beautiful her entire labor was.
She was born during the day, which was a first for me. It was a perfect day, warm and sunny and cotton seeds floated through the air all day and for days and days following. It made her birth and first weeks of life feel like a dream. I spent a lot of time laying in bed with her just staring out the window and the beautiful woods and cotton fluffs dancing in the air in slow motion. When labor started the kids went home with my parents and came back just in time to meet her before they went to bed.. it was everything I prayed for. She was born at home, during the day, we were safe and healthy, my kids got to meet her right away… it was such a gift.
I’ve made a shortened version of her birth video to share here! The video was made by a mix of Grayson, a little by me and mostly by my great sister in law (we’ve taught her how to do video a bit so she can be there to capture our births, she was there for 3 out of 4 of them!)
The photos were done by Brianne Bell Photography, she did such a lovely job and I’m so grateful she was a part of Daphne’s birth!
